Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 3. We trust that despite the weather you were able to have some down time. As always it has been lovely for the children to reconnect with their teachers and friends.
Professional Learning
On Monday the staff participated in a day of professional learning. The first session of the day was spent on the Religious Education Curriculum. Lead by Mrs Katie Imbriano staff spent time navigating the available resources on Brisbane website to explore more quality resources to support their planning and teaching. Mrs Kerry Wode worked with staff during the second session to further advance our work on the teaching and learning of Mathematics. Our afternoon session was focused on writing, with teachers working in Stage groups.
Thank you
Thank you to all those in the community who have been supporting the Gilkam family over this very difficult time. On Wednesday morning we prayed together for them by praying the Hail Mary. We know that everyone at SHPS will continue to keep them close to their heart as we enter into the new semester.
We will have a counsellor on site on Monday to support where needed. Please contact the front office if you have any questions.
NAIDOC Week
This Friday Year 6 Navy will lead us in celebrating NAIDOC Week which was held during the holidays (4th- 11th July). As you are aware this year’s theme is Heal Country. I have captured a small piece from the NAIDOC week website to help us reflect on this theme and background.
Country is inherent to our identity
It sustains our lives in every aspect – spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially and culturally.
It is more than a place.
When we talk about Country it is spoken of like a person.
Country is family, kin, law, lore, ceremony, traditions, and language. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders we sing to – and celebrate Country – and Country speaks to us….

COVID – 19
Please check the ACT website for the latest information and restriction. It important that people be informed to keep everyone safe.
We will continue to send you any updates and advice from the CE.
Take care and God bless,
Winter Uniform
Wearing our uniform correctly demonstrates our pride in ourselves. It also identifies us a community. Please refer to our Uniform Policy https://sacredhps.act.edu.au/policies-forms
A reminder that trackpants are to be worn only on sport uniform days. Our school uniform trousers and track pants are navy in colour.
School Hours
Our playground supervision hours are between 8.30am and 3.30pm. If you need care outside of these hours, please make arrangements with our out of school care provider YMCA.
ICAS Assessments
Sacred Heart will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments again this year. The assessments are offered to children in Years 2-6. Parents can choose to enrol their child in these tests. Each test costs between $17-22. The assessment will be held in school hours during August. Dates and test costs are listed below. The assessments will take place at school at the most suitable time on that day. Access the PDF note here or pick up one from the office.
Yours faithfully,

Celebrating Grandparents and Special Friends
The First World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be held on the 25th July. His Holiness Pope Francis established this special day earlier this year. In keeping with celebrating these amazing people, Sacred Heart will be launching our response to this call next week. With the current uncertainty of COVID – 19 we are planning some activities over Term 3. This will not only recognise the gift and value of these special people in the world but help keep our Grandparents and Special Friends connected in these times of uncertainty. These activities will culminate with an onsite event at the beginning of Term 4 (COVID – 19 restrictions permitting)

TERM 3 COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS
From Mr Ross Fox - Director, Catholic Education.
New restrictions for ACT after 11.59 pm on Friday 9 July 2021 from Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour.
Latest information regarding COVID 19 Restrictions
RE: COVID-19 INFORMATION TERM 3 2021 – ACT SCHOOLS
Information for ACT Schools
- The ACT Government has now imposed tighter restrictions for ACT residents returning from COVID-19 affected areas. These new restrictions mean that anyone who has entered the ACT after 11.59 pm on Friday 9 July 2021 from Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour is required to quarantine for 14 days.
- Quarantine is a more stringent requirement than the ‘stay at home’ order that is in place for people already in the ACT from these areas. Being quarantined at home means these persons need to stay at home. They cannot go to work, school or public areas such as shops, cafes, or restaurants. ‘Stay at home’ arrangements remain unchanged for those who arrived before 11.59 pm on Friday 9 July 20201.
The Vinnies Winter Appeal provides emergency relief to people at risk and experiencing homelessness. Your donation and support will help ensure that families at risk of homelessness get the financial and emotional support they need to keep themselves and their children safe.
Particularly in these colder months we ask for:
- Blankets
- Large Jackets
- Large Jumpers
- Warm Gloves and Socks
- Sleeping Bags
These donations then go directly to people in need in your community.
The Sacred Heart Community is encouraged to donate any of the items listed above to help support the Vinnies Winter Appeal. Donations can be handed into the Front Office.
Congratulations to the following students celebrating their birthday this week
Henry C, Oscar B, Joshua H, Tadi K.
