Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to SHPS for a new year of learning and growing. It has been a peaceful and joyful return to 2021. We send a warm welcome to our new families. It has been lovely to see parents at our morning assemblies.
This year in “a world where we can be anything” we are going to work together and “choose to be kind” to the people we meet and world around us.
Professional Development
Last week staff attended 3 days of Professional Development.
On Wednesday we participated in a Spirituality day focused on the call to be Stewards of Creation. We revisited the Catholic Social teaching and used the wisdom of Pope Francis by reading parts of his encyclical letter Laudato Si’. The day culminated with walk to Mawson ponds.
Thursday we nurtured the mind by participating in the first online component of the Catholic Education CATALYST program. During the day we had the opportunity to listen to world renowned speakers in education. Oliver (Ollie) Lovell - Cognitive Load Theory, Tom Sherrington – Rosenshine’s 10 Principles of Instruction and Toni-Ann Vroom introduced us to some of the work she has been doing with the Writing Revolution. Friday was our administration day where we revisited policies and prepared for our student’s return.
We offer our deepest sympathy to Mrs Evenden and family on the loss of her grandmother.
Take care and God bless,
It is wonderful we can welcome adults back into the school as restrictions start to ease. Please see information about COVID-19 restrictions and advice on our school website with links to the CE COVID-19 page.
Can you send birthday cakes to school? We were asked this one this week! Yes, but all food needs to be individually wrapped or handled. Eg cupcakes with a set of tongs, wrapped chocolate frog.
Classes will be sending home next week, as part of our Parent Information Evening, information about helping in the classrooms.
Yours faithfully,

Opening School Mass
Sacred Heart will celebrate the new school year with an Opening School Mass next week. In keeping with the Archdiocesan Protocols with restricted numbers, only the students and staff of Sacred Heart may attend this mass.
It has been a tradition for the Year 6 students to have their leadership badges pinned on by their parents at the Opening School Mass. The school would like to invite Year 6 parents on Friday 12th February to a special morning assembly at 9am to acknowledge their children as leaders and to give them the opportunity to pin on leadership badges. We thank you for your understanding as we continue to work together under the current conditions and restrictions.

The school canteen is open everyday except Wednesday. Please update your child’s details on Qkr! to ensure lunches go to the correct class for 2021. At this stage there will be no over the counter sales for recess. You can order recess through Qkr! by selecting the ‘Snacks’ tab and then selecting Recess Orders. Students can collect their recess order from the canteen at 1.45pm. It is helpful to let your child know if they have a lunch order or recess at the canteen.

NAPLAN Online will occur in our school between 11 and 21 May 2021.
NAPLAN Online is a more engaging assessment that adjusts questions to each student’s achievement level. It also delivers more precise results to schools and parents more quickly.
NAPLAN provides valuable information to schools and parents about literacy and numeracy achievement. It supports school improvement processes by enabling teachers to monitor student progress over time and to identify areas of strength and development.
All eligible students are encouraged and supported to participate in NAPLAN testing. Visit www.nap.edu.au to see interactive versions of the test and for more information.
