Dear Parents and Carers,
Parent Teacher Interviews and Three Way Conferences
While a written report is important, building the relationship between school and family, as research has shown, has a very positive effect on student achievement. As such, we ask all parents to take this opportunity to have a formal interview to discuss your child’s progress and learning goals with their class teacher.
The format of the interview for Stage 2 and 3 is a three-way conference between parent/s, child and teacher. This an opportunity for students to share their goals, their learning and receive feedback to move their learning forward. The conversation will include academic and skill development. The students will choose and share examples of their work.
The format of interview for Kindergarten and Stage 1 parents is a parent and teacher conversation. If your child is in Kindergarten or Stage 1 and you have had a recent formal discussion around your child’s learning you do not need to make another appointment.

Do not touch, pick or eat any wild mushrooms!
Death Cap mushrooms are one of the world’s deadliest mushrooms and can be currently be found across the Canberra region. Since 2002, there have been four deaths and several poisonings in the ACT due to Death Cap mushrooms.
In Canberra, Death Cap mushrooms often grow near established oak trees in mild, moist weather. Death Cap mushrooms have previously been found growing on school grounds in the ACT.
Parents and teachers are asked to remind children not to touch, pick or eat any wild mushrooms.
As the Death Cap mushroom can easily be confused with edible varieties, People are also strongly advised not to touch, pick or eat any wild mushrooms. It is difficult, even for experienced collectors, to tell the difference between the Death Cap mushroom and edible wild mushrooms.
All parts of the Death Cap mushroom are poisonous and eating part of a mushroom can be fatal. Cooking the Death Cap mushroom does not make it safe.
If you suspect that you or one of your family members might have eaten Death Cap mushrooms, you should seek urgent medical attention at a hospital emergency department.
If you believe you have seen a Death Cap mushroom, keep children and animals away and do not touch the mushroom with your bare skin. If it is growing in a public area, please contact Access Canberra on 13 22 81. If it is in your own yard, wear rubber or plastic gloves and remove the whole mushroom, including any part under the ground. Put it straight into a plastic bag, put the bag into the rubbish bin and then wash your hands.

Next year will be our 50th Anniversary. The Community Council has established a subcommittee for this important event in our schools history. Josie L (Selena 5/6R, Natasha 2R) will be chairing this committee and is calling for volunteers to assist her in planning celebrations for this important event.

First Reconciliation for Baptised Catholics Year 3 and above - Enrolments Now Open!
The Parent Information Night for First Reconciliation will be held 7pm at Sacred Heart Church, Wednesday 10th April.
Sessions will take place 7pm in the Church on the Wednesdays of 1st to 22nd May and celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday 23rd May.

2019 SHPS Winter Netball
Dear Parents and Carers,
Registrations for the 2019 SHPS Winter netball competition are closed and all teams with the exception of the year 2/3 team are now FULL.
Unfortunately, due to the numbers of each of the teams, late registrations cannot be considered for years 4, 5 and 6.
If there is any interest for the year 2/3 team please contact me. We are looking for 2-3 additional players.
I will be in contact with nominated Coaches and Managers shortly.
To those players who have registered, and are yet to make payment, could this please be finalised at the front office or via Qkr by Friday 5th of April.

PLAY TOUCH IN WINTER!
“Touch Football ACT are running a Junior Winter Competition spanning from 7 May to 25 June. The competition will be 8 weeks and will be held at Deakin Playing Fields each Tuesday evening starting at 5:30pm and ending at roughly 7pm. This competition will align with Term 2 of the School Calendar year and will run from Week 2 to Week 9. This competition is perfect for your kids to get involved in as it allows them to be active in winter in a fun, friendly environment and do so before it gets too cold.
