Remembrance Day at Sacred Heart
Date: Monday 11th November 2019
Time: 10:30am
Remembrance Gathering Place - The Church Carpark.
All families are invited to attend a ceremony paying tribute to the servicemen and women who have died in wars, conflict and peacekeeping operations on Remembrance Day 11th November 2019 at Sacred Heart.
We welcome past and current defence families to participate in the ceremony. Please contact Katie Imbriano katie.imbriano@cg.catholic.edu.au, if you are available to be a part of the Remembrance Day service at Sacred Heart.
TikTok App
Please read the attached National Online Safety Guide for information about the popular TikTok app. The subscription age is 13+ years old yet we are having increased incidents at school regarding student accounts and chat groups which occur out of school hours. There are some major safety risks and alerts that we would like you to be aware of.
TikTok is a global video community where users create, share and discover ‘funny and memorable moments’ via short video clips. Videos can then be edited with special effects, filters, stickers, music and sound clips. Currently one of the world’s most popular apps, TikTok was formerly known as Musical.ly, before it was rebranded by a Chinese company in 2017. If your child previously had a Musical.ly account, all of their videos and personal settings will have automatically been moved to TikTok.

Remembrance Day
We remember by taking a moments time
We remember how they had risked their lives
We remember by seeing poppies grow
We remember bowing our heads

National Recycling Week 11th - 17th November
In 1996, Planet Ark founded National Recycling Week to bring a national focus to the environmental benefits of recycling. Now in its 24th year, this established and highly regarded annual campaign continues to educate and stimulate behaviour change, by:
- Giving people the tools to minimise waste and manage material resources responsibly at home, work and school.
Our environmental student leaders have been busy preparing activities to raise awareness in the Sacred Heart Community.
We would also ask that families help us to promote a healthier environment in our community next week by supporting our current programs.
- Lids for Kids
Lids off plastic drink and milk bottles can be put in yellow bin in the bike cage.
- Bottle recycling
We get 10c for every can or bottle brought in. Please place in the yellow bin. The money raised does go back into the school to buy resources.
- Waste Free Wednesday
Bring your recess and lunch in containers or suitable recycling materials to cut down on waste.
Maybe think of one thing your family could do at home to contribute minimising in the wider community.
Yours faithfully,
Anne Staines
Principal
Fete Wrap-up
Our fete at the end of last term was a successful event. A wonderful way to connect our families and wider community to Sacred Heart. The rain certainly did not dampen the spirits of everyone involved. We have welcomed such positive feedback around the variety of stalls and activities, food and entertainment. We did have to clean a few carpets after bringing all our activities inside, but the cosiness of passing everyone in the hallways made for a very friendly event.
The school and committee are pleased to advise that we raised around $13,000 from the 2019 fete. This is a little down on last year, but still a great result from a rainy day fete. Our expenses were a little higher this year and of course, our ride takings were considerably less. Congratulations to all our prize-winners in 2019. We were thrilled to be able to offer such amazing items in all of our competitions.
We have not counted the Fete Writing books in these figures, as they were a school celebration of writing. Promoting writers and improving our writing skills has been part of our annual improvement plan this year. We have sold about two thirds of the books, but have a few left for sale if you missed buying your family’s copy.
Due to the wet weather, we do have a few items left over which we will have for sale on the carols night, 11th December. Sausages, drinks, show bags and writing books will be available.
We wish to thank a number of people.
- Our fabulous Fete Committee for their vision, time and talent. Each person took on a different task, and yet supported each other through the busy times!
- The staff for their support and flexibility.
- Members of our community who expertly coordinated a stall and all members of our community who worked on, and leading up to, fete day to ensure the success of our fete.
- To everyone who donated goods from pick-a-pots, to cakes and second-hand items.
- Lastly, a huge thanks to our sponsors. Your support with donations, prizes and items to run the fete contributed significantly to our fundraising total.
We look forward to contributing the funds raised towards the renovation of the school courtyard.
Before School drop-off and the Afternoon pick-up Procedures
We wish to remind all parents and carers who do the before school drop-off and the after school pick–up of our procedures. These directives are for the wellbeing of all our students and ensure that students are supervised by a teacher on duty at all times.
Morning Arrival
Students can be dropped off at Drive-Through or Murphy St from 8.30am when a teacher starts duty. No child should be on the premises before this time as there is no teacher on duty and thus your child is unsupervised. If you need care before 8.30am, please book your child in to our before-school service with YMCA.
Afternoon Pick-Up Procedures
Pick up: Parking is available in the main school carpark, below the bus bay on Murphy St or in adjacent streets. Please do not use the church carpark.
We ask that all parents and carers do not enter the building to wait beside individual classrooms. Instead, please wait at these nominated locations and ask your child to come to you:
- Kinder Courtyard. Teacher on duty.
- Maker Space inside the building between canteen and library. All parents and carers must only enter the building via the front door. No teacher on duty.
- Outside Stage 3 Corridor exit door. No teacher on duty.
- Near the main hall doors. Children exit via the Stage 3 Corridor door. Teacher nearby at Drive-Through.
- If parents and carers need to visit the classroom to see the teacher or to pick up items, please make your way around, once the majority of students have cleared the corridor.
- Please teach your child to see the teacher on duty (Kinder Courtyard and Drive-Through) or the front office staff if ever they cannot find the person who is picking them up.
- No child should be walking up to the church carpark or down to Beasley Street. They should be with the teacher at Drive-Through.
Drive-Through: Cars come down Hodgson Crescent, turn left into school driveway, queuing around the top near the hall. Teacher(s) on duty will direct you to pick-up or waiting bays and send your children to you. Cars must then exit the carpark and turn left onto Hodgson Cres, being careful at the pedestrian crossing. Children going to Drive-Through, exit via the Stage 3 Corridor door and wait quietly on the yellow cross near the lower hall doors with the teacher on duty.
Bus: Limited buses arrive at Hodgson Street. Children wait with the teacher on duty in the Kinder courtyard, walking up with the walkers.
YMCA ASC: Children exit via the Stage 3 Corridor door and enter the back hall doors to greet YMCA staff. Kinder and Yr 1 children will be met by YMCA staff at their classroom as arranged.
Walk/ride: Children can walk or ride to cross streets with a teacher on duty. Beasley St and Hodgon Cres (meet at canteen) or, Murphy St and Hodgson Cres (meet in Kinder Courtyard)
Teachers are on duty until 3.30pm at Drive-Through and in the Kinder Courtyard. Children not picked up in these areas by these times will be taken to the Front Office and a phone call made.
We would also like to remind all Parents and Carers that students need to stay by your side once they have been collected by you and remain in your duty of care. In no instance should a student be playing on any school equipment while the teacher is on duty.
Yours Faithfully
Assistant Principal

Last Thursday, all of Stage 2 made a successful round trip of Mt Taylor (including the Summit!) as part of our new Inquiry unit. Our current question is 'How has the Earth's surface changed over time?' Father Richard proved himself to be very knowledgeable about paddock weeds, rocks, weathering and erosion. A few fast facts: the rocks on Mount Taylor are from the Silurian age 420 million years ago and are known as acid volcanic rocks!
