Dear Community,
Our newsletter is being sent home a day earlier this week. This change is due to the funeral of one of our beloved staff members, Mrs. Lella Senatore, tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church.
Mrs. Senatore was a cherished member of our school community, and we all deeply feel her loss. To honour her memory and support her family during this difficult time, all of our staff will attend the funeral.
To ensure that our students' learning continues smoothly, several visiting teachers from other schools will step in to assist in our classrooms. I am so grateful to St Mary MacKillop College, Sts Peter and Paul Garran, St Francis of Assisi Calwell, St Bede’s Red Hill, St Joseph’s O’Connor, St Jude’s Holder, St Monica’s in Evatt, and Holy Trinity Curtin, who are all sending a staff member to help us out.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. S's family. Please join us in keeping them in your hearts during this time of sorrow.
STAFFING UPDATE
As we approach the end of the current term, I would like to inform you about some staffing changes from the beginning of next term.
As you know, Mr. Aaron Fox left at the end of Term 2, and we have been 'back-filling' positions while we sourced a new coordinator. We welcome Mr. Matthew Maloney as our new Coordinator, who will commence next term and necessitate a change to staffing arrangements.
Mrs. Kerry Wode, our Assistant Principal, will also take well-deserved long service leave for the first five weeks of next term. We wish her a restful and rejuvenating break. Mrs Katie Imbriano will be the Acting Assistant Principal during this time.
We also welcome back Mrs Sam Peake from Maternity Leave, who will commence next term.
The changes for the first five weeks of the term include:
1.Mr Matthew Maloney will teach 2 White every Wednesday and Thursday;
2.Mr Matthew Maloney will teach in 6W every Friday (and for the rest of the year);
3.Mrs Sam Peake returns and will be teaching in the library every Monday and Tuesday;
4.Mr Dan Fulton will continue teaching two days a week in 5 White for the rest of the year (Monday and Thursday);
5.Mr Dan Fulton will teach STEAM on Tuesday and Wednesday;
6.Mr Dan Fulton will teach 3 White every Friday.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
School Uniform
With the holidays approaching, it is an excellent time to get all uniform requirements ready for the start of term 3. School uniforms have seemed to be a constant battle recently! We persistently remind students that they must wear the correct uniform to school. We need parental support to follow Catholic Education Uniform guidelines and School Uniform Policy.
Please support us by ensuring the students wear the correct uniform to school. Thank you.
Also, over the holidays could you please check all school uniforms for names? We have two issues at present: one is we have a lot of uniform items at lost property with no names; and the other is we have parents who have labelled clothing and cannot find their uniform. A check by everyone over the break would be much appreciated. Thanks.
REMINDER- THE FIRST DAY FOR STUDENTS IS TUESDAY, 23 JULY
Our first day back for Term 3 with students is Tuesday, July 23rd. (We have a staff-only day on Monday, July 22nd.)
As we near the end of Term 2, I thank our parents for all they do for the children at school. Your support of us is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to your continued involvement next semester.
On behalf of all, thank you to our very dedicated and excellent staff for your work, care, and interest in our children, particularly during the busy time of the year with assessments and reports. We are fortunate to have a group of dedicated professionals who contribute so much to Sacred Heart.
Enjoy the last two days and then the holidays!
In faith and partnership,
David Austin
Principal
How much screen time is too much?
This question has come up a couple of times this week as I have chatted with families. With the winter holidays coming up, it can be a challenging time.
Obviously the answer depends on the age of your child, the purpose of the time spent on screen and your family values. The challenge is balancing it against ‘peer’ and ‘pester‘ pressure to be doing what all their friends are doing.
I share here with you a link to eSafety website with advice, guidelines and family templates to help you set the boundaries you know are right for your child.
Would you like to help warm someone’s heart?
Calling all knitters in the Sacred Heart Community!
Please help me make something cosy and warm to donate to the Vinnies winter appeal for people in need this winter! Do you want to be part of this cosy project?
I’m aiming to collect enough knitted squares to join and make a scarf or small blanket.
Each square needs to be knitted to a size of 10cm x 10cm.
They can be of any colour or wool thickness you like.
You could knit during the school holidays with your family.
I’d love to collect all of these by Tuesday 23rd July to allow me time to sew them together.
You can hand them in to me or at the front desk.
Don’t forget to put your name on it so I know who to thank.
THANKYOU!!!
Mia (I’m in 4 Red).
Yours in the virtue of Respect,
