Dear Community,
I hope you had a great long weekend!
Tomorrow is Pyjama Day. Students (and staff) are encouraged to wear pyjamas and donate a gold coin to the Vinnies appeal.
Tomorrow…
- students are encouraged to wear pjyamas, oodies, onesies, dressing gowns (wearing sneakers rather than slippers, please for safety/sport);
- Please bring a gold coin donation, which will go towards the CEO's Sleepout. All money raised goes directly to St Vincent de Paul Society here in the ACT to support homelessness and projects like the Vinnies Night Patrol;
- We will have a visit by the Night Patrol Van tomorrow and they will ‘show and tell’ the van and how it is used.
I appreciate your support.
CEO Sleepout
A small thing I can do is participate in the CEO Sleepout. I will be given two pieces of cardboard and allowed to bring only warm clothes, a sleeping bag, and a pillow. This day will occur next Thursday, June 20, outside Parliament House.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a one-night event held on one of the longest and coldest nights of the year. Hundreds of CEOs, business owners, and community and government leaders sleep outdoors to support the many Australians experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness.
The gold coin donation from the Pyjama Day will go towards this, and I certainly encourage you to support this great cause. As a Vinnies Night Patrol leader, I see firsthand the plight of homelessness and the number of local Canberrans doing it tough each night.
Please ask friends, work colleagues or neighbours to throw a few dollars towards a good cause: https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/david-austin/canberra
In faith and partnership,

Last Friday, we celebrated the Feast of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The day began with a beautiful mass led by Fr. Emil. It was an opportunity for our school community to reflect on the meaning of the Sacred Heart and to give thanks and recall the wonders of Jesus’ love for us. The students are to be commended on their outstanding singing and behaviour throughout mass.
The children then participated in a variety of activities including preparing and planting the Floriade Community Garden out the front of the school, creating Kindness Rocks and a workshop presented by Vinnies on ‘Homelessness’. It was truly wonderful to see the enthusiasm and engagement of the students as they lived out our school virtues of respect, kindness, courage, and gratitude.
Community spirit was certainly evident throughout our Sacred Heart Feast Day. We thank Fr. Emil for his wonderful mass and meaningful homily. To Shannon Roffey and Janet McCoy for assisting with setting up, cooking, and serving the sausage sizzle lunch. To the amazing staff who guided all the activities and made the day run so smoothly.
The McGrath Irish Dance Championships were held last week in Canberra, showcasing the best Irish dancing in the country. Sacred Heart had many students proudly represent at this prestigious event. With over 150 dancers from the ACT, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, the competition was fierce.
Our Sacred Heart girls stepped up to the challenge, demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication. Congratulations to all our dancers who participated and made us proud!
