Dear Community
We are looking forward to the Cross Country Carnival tomorrow. Thanks so much to the many parents assisting. You are all most welcome to come and support! It should be great fun!
Enrolment 2025
Officially, the enrolment period for Catholic schools begins at the end of April: on Monday, April 29, and finishes on Friday, May 31. We will be conducting some targeted marketing and advertising (social media, signs, etc.), but the best form of advertising, I believe, is ‘word of mouth’. Please spread the word, and if you know families interested in a Catholic education at Sacred Heart, please have them contact me—I am pleased to show them around our fantastic school.
Sacred Heart Primary School will hold two Open Days for interested families early next term on Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 22, from 9.30 to 11 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Enrolment forms are available on our website and can be completed until May 31.
Please inform any friends or family about these days. Please spread the word!
Staffing News
As you know, Mr Aaron Fox finishes at Sacred Heart in his tenth year as a teacher, Religious Education Coordinator and Coordinator. Again, we wish Aaron all the best in his future professional opportunities and thank him for his commitment over many years here.
After selection, Mrs Laura Stumbles has been appointed ‘Acting Coordinator’ for Term 2. Mrs Sarah Salter will teach in Year 2 two days per week to allow Laura to complete her leadership responsibilities. Congratulations, Laura, on your appointment, and welcome Sarah (who is a regular relief teacher at Sacred Heart).
Mrs Amy Kelly will teach full-time in Term 2 (replacing Aaron’s one day in this class), and I appreciate Amy’s generosity in ensuring Year 6 is not disrupted.
The position of Coordinator will be advertised early in the term and hopefully finalized by mid-term.
Self-Reflections
To promote deep learning at Sacred Heart, we regularly give students the opportunity to reflect on, recall, and apply their content knowledge about what is being taught and evaluate themselves as learners. One example is the 'Student Self Reflection' sent home after each Term.
We encourage parents and carers to use their child/rens self-reflection to open up discussion about their learning and how they are utilising their ‘Learning Assets’ to find success and overcome challenges. These conversations will help students have agency in their knowledge and express and share a common language of learning with you. These self-reflections have been read by your child's teacher but are meant to be an authentic example of their thinking and progress, spelling errors, handwriting and all. If you have concerns about your child’s learning progress, don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Uniform reminders
I appreciate your support of the school uniform this year. A reminder that a full winter uniform is required for Terms 2 and 3. A copy of our ‘School Uniform Policy’ is available on our website, and I encourage all families to re-familiarise themselves with the correct uniform and appearance requirements. Please ensure your children are ready to go for the start of Term 2.
Thank you for such a great term and for making me feel welcome. We have had a pleasing and productive start to the year. Your support and hard work ensure Sacred Heart School is a happy, peaceful and productive place. Seeing how well the kindergarten students have settled into the routines is impressive. Many of them are reading and writing, and only eleven weeks ago, they were turning up to ‘big school’ for the first time. They have come along so far.
The staff have worked extremely hard to prepare and deliver quality programmes to cater to all students. You should be very proud of how the staff have worked in many aspects of school life.
I thank our parents for all they do for the children at school. This year, we have enjoyed tremendous support from parents who help us in many ways.
I wish you a fabulous Term 1 break. I look forward to seeing you back, refreshed, in a few weeks.
In faith and partnership,
David Austin
Principal

Friday is our Cross Country, it will be run between 11:45am and 1:45pm. We will start with the older age groups and make our way down to Kindergarten. Students are allowed to wear a t-shirt in their house colour. Please make sure they have plenty of food and water for the day.
We will be providing a sausage sizzle (1 per student) and a Zooper Dooper after the cross country.
Parents who have volunteered - please arrive at 11:30am, sign in at the front office and then Mrs Stumbles will meet you on the black top (morning assembly area).
If you are now able to help, please just come on the day, sign in at the front office and we will have a job for you.
We look forward to a great day and our final carnival.
Kinder and Stage 1 AFL Clinic
On Monday, Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 participated in an AFL Clinic run by AFL ACT. We learnt the different ways to take a mark, how to handball and how to kick a goal. We had a great time and we are very grateful for this opportunity.
South Weston Swimming
On Friday 5th April, Scared Heart took a team of 20 students to compete in the South Weston Swimming Carnival at Stromlo. There were over 1000 entries for the races which is hugh amount of swimmers. Our team did incredibly well, with lots of our students coming in the top 3 swimmers for their heats. The best part was that most of our swimmers all swam quicker times, giving them new personal bests.
Congratulations to all involved and we will hopefully find out soon if any of our students have qualified to compete at the ACT finals.
Congratulations to the Sacred Heart students who celebrated their First Holy Communion last weekend.
Thank you to our Parish Priest Fr. Emil, for guiding and supporting the children over the last few weeks. Thank you also to Melanie and Christina from Mary Help of Christians Parish and the wonderful parishioners who have been praying for the children.
We had many members of the Sacred Heart Staff in attendance at the masses, to witness the faith and reverence displayed by the children as they received the Eucharist. Thank you for always being present in the faith journey of our students.
Congratulations to these children on making their First Holy Communion
