Dear Community
Starting tomorrow at 1 pm, our students will re-enact the Holy Week events. Kinder starts tomorrow with Palm Sunday, which occurs this weekend and begins Holy Week. Next Thursday, Years 5 and 6 will re-enact the Last Supper, the story of Jesus’ death on the cross and the triumph of the Risen Christ on Easter Sunday. All these liturgies commence at 1 pm next Thursday.
Holy Week is the most important period in the Church year though, given our commercial world, we might be forgiven for thinking it to be somewhat left in the wake of Christmas. This is particularly so when we compare the joy of Christmas with the events of Holy Week where the story of betrayal, suffering and death dominates events. Only at the end of the week when we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus that the focus turns to joy and hope.
God’s love for each one of us was perfected in the suffering and death of his son Jesus Christ. The death of Jesus was one of violence and cruelty – betrayed by a friend, deserted by followers and rejected by those he had tried to help. Yet we realise that God sent Jesus into the world to be the saviour of all, and by sharing in the human condition in its most distressing form, God’s love is manifest in a way which leads us to eternal life.
As our classes follow the events of suffering, death and resurrection during this upcoming Holy Week we look for them to recognise the love God has for us, in the knowledge that no matter how great our suffering or distress may be, God understands and is there as our silent companion. In Jesus, we are given not the end but the path to eternal life.

Swimming Carnival
What a fantastic day we had today! A huge thanks to Mrs Laura Stumbles who coordinated her second major carnival in two weeks and ensured it was highly successful. Thanks to staff and parents for assisting too- we cannot do it without you! Well done everyone!
Working Bee Tomorrow from 3:30 pm to 6 pm
A reminder please that we have our Working Bee tomorrow afternoon. We have 5 cubic metres of sand being delivered to top up our sandpits for our children and need some help (please bring shovels and wheelbarrows!). We also have hedge trimming, weeding, blowing and whipper-snipping fence lines so please bring along relevant tools for this too. I will shout a sausage sizzle and drinks at the conclusion so please bring the kids to help too! Thank you!!
Boys at Sacred Heart
Thanks to the parents who attended our ‘Boys at Sacred Heart’ Meeting last night. Traditionally we have parents who have boys who leave Sacred Heart at the end of Year 3, parents who are committed to a K-6 Co-Educational Primary School experience at Sacred Heart and parents who are unsure. We had at least 12 parents in attendance, and it was a great discussion. I understand not every parent could attend and am more than happy to run another session or have a separate conversation if parents wish. If any parent wishes to chat with me, please email me or contact the Front Office.
In faith and partnership,
David Austin
Principal

Sacred Heart Community Ride and Walk to school Morning
Our Term 1 Ride and Walk to school morning is Friday 22nd March
Continuing on from last year, we would like to build an independent ride and walking community within our school. This independence of riding or walking may become a more practical option of getting to school. Families/students can meet at various pick up locations within our community.
Ways to organise this could be to find information and communicate/connect via 'The Sacred Heart Parents and Carers' Facebook page or utilise other parent networks you have. You may wish to set up a WhatsApp to organise daily or weekly walking to school days. Below are the meeting points (without teachers) so parents can meet there and send their children on their way to school. This may help to organise future riding/walking mornings and if some parents are able to walk with the group, they can talk about how to get to school safely with the children.
As usual, we will have fresh fruit, music and a raffle draw when students arrive at school.
We hope this begins an exciting chapter of confidence and independence for our Sacred Heart Students, enabling them to nurture their hearts, minds and spirits.
Congratulations
Stage 3 students Josephine K (Under 11s) and Aneka T (Under 12s) have been selected in the Junior Representative teams for Arawang Netball Association and played in an all day carnival in Nowra on the weekend.
Thank you to all the families and staff who supported the Sacred Heart Book Fair last Week.
The school sold over $3000 worth of books, which was great to see. This means a lot of books in young excited hands. From the proceeds of these sales we have been able to purchase a further $300 dollars worth of hot reads from Scholastic and a further $400 will be used to purchase books from other retailers.
Again a massive shout out to all the families who supported the book fair and the generous staff who gave up their time to be part of the festivities.
Yours in reading,
Mr. Aaron Fox
The St. Vincent de Paul School Engagement Team invited student representatives from Sacred Heart to a Mini Vinnies School Event on Monday 18th March.
The theme was harmony, and the students were given the opportunity to explore the topic and connect with other schools.
The students from Sacred Heart are to be commended on their positive engagement and respectful manner.

Caritas Australia Project Compassion
The season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday (14th February), which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2024 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion.
