Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2. It has been delightful to begin the new term with such beautiful weather.
This weekend we celebrate the fourth Sunday of Easter. If we give of ourselves through love and care in our life and work we need to also take time to feel loved and be renewed by the love of others. Through that we can be energized to serve again.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Miss Dempsey on her marriage during the school holidays. We wish Michelle and her husband Allan all the best as they begin this new part of their life journey together.
ANZAC Day
Congratulations and thank you to Mrs Staff (Miss Dempsey) and our year 6 students on our reflective ANZAC Day celebration on Wednesday morning.
Monday’s staff professional learning day was a wonderful opportunity for us to refresh our skills and understanding of the “Rock and Water’ program. The program is grounded in our key virtue, RESPECT using physical activity and guided reflection.
Thank you to Brenton and his YMCA team
The school hosted a very successful School Holiday program through our After School Care (YMCA). Week one focused on sport and week 2 on science. The children enjoyed these wonderful experiences. We also thank you our very active Community Council and parent body for their work in ensuring we are able to provide this service for our families.
Take care and keep safe

Staff Participate in ‘Rock and Water’ professional learning (photos in Term 2 photos)
Sacred Heart staff have valued the skills developed by the Rock and Water program over many years. Rock and Water is a huge tool in our Social and Emotional Skills explicit teaching. It was great for teachers and learning support staff to join together on Monday to work with Brain and Sandy again, so that all staff are familiar with the program’s language, purpose and activities.
“Rock and water decreases bullying and depressive feelings, and increases self-esteem, self-regulation and social acceptance building self-confidence, self-respect and self-reflection
Basically, Rock and Water is a course that is delivered over a number of lessons to students in primary or high school. A series of exercises and games are practised to develop confidence and self-reflection. The games are diverse and many have a martial arts origin. The program has a strong appeal to students who enjoy the active nature of the many games and drills. Students learn to stand strong, negotiate using “rock” or “water” verbal approaches, walk away from trouble, consider alternatives to aggression, and develop understandings about who they are, their intuitive feelings and their personal direction.’

Da Vinci Decathlon
Students from Year 5 and 6 have been invited to nominate for a place in the teams for the Da Vinci Decathlon on Tuesday 9th May. Paper notes are due back on Friday.
The decathlon is an enrichment activity for enthusiastic, creative and highly capable students, who are flexible learners, cooperative workers and able to work under the pressure of limited time frames.
Yours faithfully,

Activities include group lessons on a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games.
Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all good chess players strive to develop.
