As our Lenten journey begins, we offer a small reflection for you from Pope Francis. In Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis challenges us to look for ways to build social friendship and a kinder and more inclusive world. Lent gives us a perfect opportunity to change – to focus on our relationship with ourselves, our fellow pilgrims and our God.
Cybersafety
On Monday Stage 3 participated in a cyber safety incursion with 'Think You Know', who left a link to a very useful website for parents. Below is a small sample about developing digital intelligence from one of the pages.
Good Habits Start Young
Parents and carers play an important role in helping children to develop digital intelligence — the social, emotional and practical skills needed to successfully navigate the digital world.
Even for preschool children, it is never too early to instil good habits, and as your child gets older it is useful to keep reminding them of these basic digital intelligence principles: respect, empathy, critical thinking, responsible behaviour and resilience. These are also principles you can emphasise with your child when things go wrong.
On this page:
- How to build digital intelligence
- I am worried my child might be bullying others
- My child has shared inappropriate images
Please use the following link will take you to the website for further information.

This week, the season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion.
This week each student has received a Project Compassion box for their donations. The school will collect all boxes and donations till the end of Term 1.

Swimming Carnival - Wednesday 22nd March, Stromlo
Cross Country - Term 2, Week 1, Friday 28th April, On site at school.
As with any community events, we always need help to run these, so if you could spare a few hours with any of these events, it would be greatly appreciated.
All permission notes and information regarding these events will be sent out through the COMPASS App.
GWS Giants
GWS Giants are coming tomorrow. GWS Giants are coming to Sacred Heart to give out our weekly awards, this coincides with our Friday AFL Clinics. We look forward to seeing them tomorrow. Parents are welcome at the awards assembly at 9:30am.
Athletics Carnival
Thank you to all parents for your quick response to submitting your child's consent for the carnival, we appreciate your patience with the new way of doing this process and we have hopefully worked out some kinks for future notes.
A huge thank you to all those parents who have volunteered for the carnival, I have received your responses through COMPASS. If you are now able to give your time to help at the carnival (even for a couple of hours), please email Laura Stumbles. For those parents who have volunteered, your eldest child will bring home, next week, a piece of information stating your job for the day.
We look forward to a wonderful day.
Swimming
Students who turn 8 years of age in 2023, and all ages above, will have the opportunity to nominate to swim in 50m races of all strokes and 25m of all strokes prior to the swimming carnival (the note will come out early March). Younger students (Kinder, Yr1 and some Yr2 students) will participate in water-based novelty games.
If you would like to nominate your child for any of these events please make sure they are confident and comfortable in the strokes of choice and the distance. Practising at a big pool is a great way to build confidence. Some swimming pools offer swimming carnival practise so look out for those at your local pool.

At Playgroup this week we had the Story Alexander’s Outing by Pamela Allen
And we did lots of dipping and tipping to make our duck float to the top just like in the story.
