Dear Parents and Carers,
We celebrate the Feast of the Blessed Trinity this Sunday.
It has been lovely to catch up with parents in person as the restrictions continue to ease. Please continue to inform the Front Office if your child/ren are needing to stay home due to illness. Please continue to report cases of COVID and isolation, so we can monitor the frequency and numbers.
Enjoy your long weekend and if you are travelling, keep safe. We look forward to seeing your children on Tuesday and hearing their stories.
Reports and interviews
Staff are busy preparing reports at the moment. An email and push note will be sent home to families with details next week. There will be time offered by teachers for optional interviews.
Cross Country
Congratulations to the children who represented Sacred Heart at the regional Cross Country yesterday. Once again their manners and participation made us very proud.
We thank Mrs Stumbles for accompanying them and all the staff back at school who needed to make changes to enable the children’s participation.
Take care and keep safe
The cold weather is suddenly upon us. Most students are looking wonderful in their winter uniform. We still have a good range of second-hand items to purchase from the clothing pool if your child needs something.
Please ensure your child brings a jumper and even a coat to school as we do utilise the outdoor playground unless it is particularly cold, windy or wet. Beanies and gloves should be in school colours. We sell school beanies via the uniform shop. We also have navy gloves and some jackets available.
Although we encourage navy or maroon coats or jackets, we understand that it is often difficult to find them. We will accept that other colours may be worn. Darker colours tend to be more suitable for children at school.
Please ensure everything is labelled with your child’s or family name.
Morning arrivals.
- A reminder that our morning duty begins at 8.30am. There is no supervision before this time. YMCA offer before-school care. Please contact them if you have a need for care before 8.30am.
- If it is particularly cold, windy or wet we will supervise the children in the hall between 8.30 and 8.55am and hold our morning assembly in there before moving to classrooms.
- If your child arrives late (after the 8:55am bell) parents and carers are legally required to take their child/ren to the Front Office to be signed in electronically by staff. Teachers find that if a child arrives before the 8:55am bell, it often help them to transition from home to school more easily.
- For the safety and care of your child please do not drop your child along Murphy St or into the Kinder Courtyard after 8.55am as these areas have no supervision at that time. There are different arrangements for classes from day to day and your child could potentially be outside and alone without an adult. If you are running late, you must enter via the office to sign your child in.
Position Vacant - School Janitor
We are currently advertising the position of school Janitor at Sacred Heart. It is 4 casual hours per week and would suit a person able to turn their hand to a number of odd jobs and repairs. Please contact Anne or Kerry if you or someone you know might be interested.
Yours faithfully,

- Please send a water bottle to school each day with your child. Our school bubblers are still closed due to COVID-19. A water bottle filling station is available in the senior corridor.
- Due to a shortage of relief teachers, when staff are ill we may use split class 'day away work' or collapse two classes together. We are managing well at the moment but make decisions around class management in response to daily need.
- If families have any clothes hangers with clips to donate to the clothing pool, could they please bring them to the front office.
Congratulations to the Sacred Heart students who made their Sacrament of Confirmation last Thursday and Friday. Thank you to Fr Richard, Amanda and Melanie from Mary Help of Christians Parish for their support and guidance in preparing the children. Also, thank you to the Sacred Heart staff who attended the masses and assisted in various roles, your support was greatly appreciated.
A huge thank you to Mrs Imbriano for all of her work in supporting the children in their Sacremental Journey and for her organisation of the Retreat Day.
Children’s Liturgy Sunday 12th June at the 10.00am Mass. Volunteers are welcome.
The Sacred Heart Mini Vinnies group are asking our community for donations of warm clothing, blankets and sleeping bags for the St. Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Donations can be brought to the Front Office over the next few weeks.

2022 Feast Day and Walkathon
Friday 24th June
Our celebration for the Sacred Heart of Jesus Feast Day in 2022 will feature a school mass, walkathon, activities and Sacred Heart cupcakes.
Sponsorship Cards will come home this week with each student. Children are asked, with parent permission, to approach family and friends for sponsorship of them walking. We discourage students from door knocking seeking sponsorship from unknown neighbours.
As part our activities on the day, the students will be making macaroons. It would be appreciated if the children could contribute to the ingredients and bring in the following items.
Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 – 1 tin of sweetened condensed milk
Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 – 500g desiccated coconut
Please check the school newsletter over the next few weeks for more information.
Athletics Carnival
Our carnival is next Thursday 16th June at the new venue of the Woden Athletics Track. We are looking forward to this day.
Thank you to all the parents who have nominated to volunteer, you have been allocated a job for the day and we will send out the information with the eldest child either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
If you are now able to volunteer, please send an email to Laura Stumbles and we will give you a job for the day or let Laura know on the day.
As per the note, students must bring ALL food for the day and dress appropriately for the weather. We hope to get a day filled with sunshine and fun.

Cross Country
Sacred Heart had 35 students compete at the South Weston Cross Country Carnival yesterday. After a postponement we had a beautiful Canberra day, perfect for running.
We were so proud of all the Sacred Heart students, who never gave up on themselves. We had some great results and we should have some student progress to the next carnival. Congratulations to Olivia G, Imogen H, Scarlett M and Josh k who will go on to the ACT Cross Country Championships.
Thank you to all the parents who took time out of their day to get their children to the carnival.
Reconciliation Week
In honour of Reconciliation Week we were grateful to have Troy Allen from Wadjing perform at our school. He taught us many things about Aboriginal histories and cultures. There were plenty of opportunities for students and teachers to be involved.
Kindergarten Shoe Lace Tying
This week Kindergarten had a visit from Paul at The Athlete's Foot, who taught Kinder how to tie shoelaces. The children love their new multipurpose pencil case.
Engineers in the Making
Kindergarten were so excited to begin building this week. They are using pulleys and winches in their diorama. Mrs Wode was very excited to be able to have parent helpers back in the classroom.
Congratulations to the following students celebrating their birthday this week
Mia B, Harrison A, Emily D, Charlee R.
Awards will be presented during the morning assembly in the Hall on Tuesday 14th June.
Parents and carers of award winners are welcome to attend.
