Nurturing our hearts, minds and spirits

Recently we had the opportunity to travel with Global School Partners to visit schools in Kenya. Sacred Heart School, Pearce, has been involved with the school partnership program with Global School Partners for the past four years. In this time our school community has been active in giving support, both physical and spiritual, to our partner school, Takima Academy in Nyamira County, Kenya.

It was a great privilege for us to be welcomed so warmly into the school community with which we have a close relationship. We were able to see and experience first-hand the impact that our support had made on the lives of the students and staff at Takima. We spoke to fellow staff members, enjoyed some time visiting and teaching the students across the two campuses. It was with pride and gratitude that Ezekiel, the administrator of Takima showed us the classrooms, water tanks and toilet block that Sacred Heart had subsidised. It was rewarding for us to be able to pass on to our staff members the thanks of our fellow Kenyan teachers for the teaching resources that had been donated to improve educational outcomes for the poor in the county of Nyamira.

While in Kenya we visited sixteen other schools with the founder of Global School Partners, Simon Carroll and Dr John Howe, a volunteer. We were humbled by the generosity and dedication of the teachers and administrators in their commitment to bring about change through the education of young, the future of Kenya. We were overwhelmed to see the positive impact the generosity of partner schools had on the lives of so many, giving the dignity and hope for a better future that only education can give to the poor.

Through our partnership with Takima our students are able to see exactly what their donations and support provide. This has encouraged them to become more generous in their support of those less fortunate.
